Lidewij Edelkoort is a trend forecaster, which travels the world studying the evolution of socio-cultural trends, and then sharing this information with its customers from various industries such as fashion, textiles, interiors, automobiles, cosmetics, retail and food. In his Paris-based Trend Union company, Edelkoort creates trend books two or more years ahead, which are tools used by international brand strategists, designers and marketers.

Today Lidewij is Dean of Hybrid Design Studies at Parsons School of Design in New York and advises several important companies in the market such as Coca-Cola, Nissan, Lacoste, Camper, Disney, Estée Lauder, Galeries Lafayette, GAP, Jean Patou, L'Oréal, Mattel, Marks & Spencer, Seibu, Seiko, Siemens, Shiseido and Whirlpool, among many other customers.

Edelkoort was recognized as a very important name for Dutch interior design with the Woonbeurs award in 2001. In 2003 TIME magazine named her as one of the 25 Most Influential People in Fashion, in world terms, while the following year she was named one of the 30 Most Influential People in Design by Icon magazine. In 2004, she received the Grand Seigneur award from the Netherlands for her work in fashion and textiles. In 2005, Edelkoort received an award for his career from Aid to Artisans and in 2008, a title of Doctorate Honoris Causa in Arts from Nottingham Trent University. In the same year, the French Minister of Culture named her Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and the Dutch royal family named her Knight of the Order of Oranje Nassau.

As a curator of exhibitions around the world, Edelkoort created memorable design exhibitions for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Nordiska museet in Stockholm, Museum of Architecture in Moscow, Design Museum Holon in Tel Aviv and the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT museum by Issey Miyake in Tokyo. The Faculty for Royal Designers of the RSA of Great Britain appointed Edelkoort 2014 Honorary Designer for Industry (RDI) in recognition of his pioneering career.
